Network Facilities Renewal Program

Abergeldie was engaged under a collaborative framework agreement to provide renewal, refurbishment, enhancement, replacement, and upgrade works on water assets across multiple project sites. Projects included upgrading sewerage reticulation, wastewater processing facilities, stormwater drainage, and potable water treatment, storage, and distribution systems across the Sydney Water network. Projects ranged in value from less than $1m to more than $5m.

Scope of Works

Abergeldie delivered more than 70 projects across Sydney Waters’ network, the Scope of Works included:

Water Infrastructure renewal and replacements including, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, building, reservoir instrumentation and control rehabilitation, renewal and replacement
Metalworks, stairways, platform, cable tray, davit upgrade and replacements
Water and sewage pumping stations renewals including concrete remediation, valve replacement, cable replacement, valve renewals, coating protection
Reservoir rehabilitation, water main rehabilitation
Remediation and refurbishment of concrete civil infrastructure
PLC, Network and SCADA upgrades
Remediation, resurfacing and construction of access roads and carparks
Erosion protection and control
Actuator replacements
Hoisting and lifting hear refurbishment and replacement
Removal and disposal of decommissioned equipment
Bushfire protection
Brownfield construction of upgrade wastewater treatment plants
Refurbishment or replacement of mechanical / electrical equipment

Complexity

All works packages were carried out under brownfield conditions on continuously operating plants. Interruptions to normal plant operations and services were kept to a minimum. On all packages, initial consultations with the existing plants’ operations and maintenance teams were geared to clearly establish the interfaces between the new works and existing processes and to plan diversions and cut-ins.

Bondi Sewage Treatment Plant - Ventilation and odour control upgrades
Rouse Hill Water Reclamation Plant - Tertiary clarifier, electrical upgrade
Penrith Water Reclamation Plant - Modifications to the chlorine contact tank
Multiple Treatment Plant Locations - Replacement of chemical dosing systems, new access stairs, platforms, and shelter, new access roads
Picton and Wollongong Sewage Treatment Plants - Modifications to controls, fabrication and installation of new access hatches, upgrade of filters
Liverpool STP - Fabricate and install new sedimentation tank inlet covers
Bondi, North Head and Malabar STPs - Refurbishment of concrete tanks
Warriewood STP, Hornsby Heights STP – Clarifier upgrades
Meadowbank and Westmead - Upgrade of surcharge capacity
