Fred Haigh Dam Remediation

Abergeldie collaborated with Sunwater to complete the Fred Haigh Dam Remediation project. This project restored dam infrastructure damaged by floods in 2010, and Tropical Cyclone Oswald in 2013. Abergeldie and Sunwater delivered the project on time, to ensure residents and tourists had full access to Lake Monduran when fishing season commenced. Excavation and disposal of loose rock within the nominated area to be concreted within the spillway channel
Installation of rock dowels within the nominated area to be concreted within the spillway channel
Surface preparation of foundation area and supply and placement of concrete within the nominated area to be concreted within the spillway channel
Reforming the drainage channel along the right bank of the Kolan River downstream of the embankment to allow drainage of water ponding downstream of the embankment

Complexity

Fred Haigh Dam is critical to the Bundaburg Water Supply Scheme for irrigation, urban and industrial and Lake Monduran, created by the dam, is a popular tourist destination and for fishing as the river is stocked with Barramundi and Australian Bass. The dam suffered some damage during the 2010 floods and subsequently in 2013 by Tropical Cyclone Oswald and its remediation was critical to ensure the dam remained safe for the community.
