“Open and honest relationship. Jose Nazareno did a fantastic job.” -Brisbane City Council
‘I liked Jose’s honesty and integrity. He is a very organised individual with great communication skills and commitment.’ – Arcadis
‘Proactive and client focussed approach to delivering client outcomes.’ – Southbank
Since joining Abergeldie in 2019, Jose has delivered a number of projects in inner-city Brisbane and the wider Regional Queensland including Southbank Riverbank Remediation, Fred Haigh Dam Remediation and Regional STP Works. As a testament to his achievements over a short period of time, Jose has risen to Project Manager over a short period of time and has been named as Finalist in this year’s CCF Earth Awards. We spoke to Jose about his experience working at Abergeldie delivering complex projects and working with a client-first and collaborative mindset.
Jose joined Abergeldie with a strong background delivering large scale projects up to $1.6billion, the Toowomba Bypass.
CHARISMATIC ATTITUDE TO CHALLENGES
Jose has grown to become our very own Brisbane delivery specialist by having the capability, experience as well as the Abergeldie ‘major with manners’ attitude to delivery. In a short period of time, he has successfully built strong, long-lasting relationships with the many clients that we work with in Queensland. ‘I choose to have a charismatic attitude towards unforeseen or unexpected challenges and, most importantly, work closely with the client to come to a resolution that has a successful outcome for all parties involved.’ His approach has not gone unnoticed by our clients who time and again note how Jose plays a pivotal role in their projects’ successful delivery commenting that Jose nurtures an ‘open and honest relationship.’
INNOVATIVE DELIVERY MODELS, METHODOLOGIES AND APPROACHES
‘Abergeldie offered me an opportunity to be a part of a team that deals with complex projects, all of which require innovative delivery models, methodologies and approaches.’ In less than two (2) years, Jose has been integral to the delivery team completing complex projects continuously providing innovative solutions to complex challenges. During the Fred Haigh Dam project, in particular, Jose rose to the acting Project Manager under the mentorship of QLD Construction Manager for career progression and professional development. His outstanding performance during this stage of the project earned him a promotion to Senior Project Engineer.
The Fred Haigh Dam supplies irrigation water to the Bundaberg Water Supply Scheme for irrigation, urban and industrial use. The dam is a 54-metre high earth and rockfill embankment with an 11-metre high earth fill saddle dam to the right of the spillway. The spillway is a 47-metre wide uncontrolled ogee tapering to a concrete chute and a flip bucket dissipator. An excavated channel leads to a natural gully that returns flow to the river. The dam is 592 metres long and stores 562,000 ML. Recently the project was named a finalist in the CCF QLD Earth Awards. Read more about it via this link.
WORKING WITH A MULTISKILLED TEAM
At its core, the Abergeldie culture is centred around collaboration and teamwork to deliver high-quality projects. Jose says that “Working in the Brisbane office I am part of a multiskilled team that has a strong focus on professional development, building relationships and better communities.’ With a genuine drive to build better communities, Jose is a great asset to our team.
CCF EARTH AWARDS 2020
As a testament to Jose’s continuous success with Abergeldie, he has been nominated for Safety Champion of the Year at the QLD CCF Earth People Award 2020. Though an outstanding achievement, Jose stresses ‘better yet – Fred Haigh Dam Remediation works has been named a finalist as well.’ The winners will be announced 23 October 2020.
