Barangaroo Under Investigation

Today the construction industry lost a brother. The staff and management at Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of the construction worker who died tragically in Sydney recently.

The man fell to his death early on the 9^th January at the Barangaroo site in Sydney. Emergency crews were called to the construction site on the western fringe of Sydney harbour at approximately 8.30am after reports that a man had fallen an “extreme distance.” Workers on-site performed CPR on the 26-year-old scaffolder until paramedics arrived but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tragic incident serves as a sober reminder of the risks faced day in, day out by workers right across the construction industry.

Lend Lease, the building company responsible for the development of the Barangaroo site, issued a statement saying that the company would investigate the “tragic” incident.

“We regret to advise there has been an incident at the Barangaroo site in Sydney this morning resulting in a fatality,” a spokeswoman said.

“We are co-operating and working closely with the relevant authorities.

“Our thoughts are with the worker’s family and friends. We are investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.”

Understandably, the relevant industry authorities will investigate. WorkCover NSW is set to examine the incident and prepare a report for the coroner. The New South Wales police will be conducting their own investigation.

We work hard to safeguard our staff and partners but we have also been blessed with incredible good fortune. The risk of death is a very real one for the construction industry and our thoughts go out to all involved in this recent tragedy.
