Abergeldie participates every year in the Oxfam Trailwalker to raise funds for Oxfam Australia and support the great work they do to tackle poverty around the world.
This year in Sydney, we have two teams of four who will be participating in the 100km and 50km events from the Hawkesbury to the Harbour.
Our 100km team leader, Ren Greentree has been fighting fit in New Zealand, training hard to lead his team to the finish line on Saturday 24 August 2019. Returning to the trail with Ren is experienced walker, Michael Doran, and together Ren and Michael have shown encouragement and support to our new walkers, Daniel Mcpherson and Micah Day.
Our 50km team leader, Rick Szabo and teammates Matthew Boyle and Denis Quigley are also some of our Oxfam veterans, and together these experienced walkers have assisted in preparing our young intern, Thomas Bouvy for his first Oxfam challenge.
We have been training hard, motivating each other along the way and ensuring everyone stays safe and healthy in the lead up to the event. Not only have our walkers supported each other, our dedicated support crews have been there every step of the way, coordinating with our teams to ensure everything runs smoothly on the day of the event.
Abergeldie 50km team is in third place on the fundraising leaderboard having raised $7,800, and our Abergeldie 100km team sits in fourth place, having raised $7,530. We want to thank everyone who has donated for your generosity and support. We ask that you continue to get behind our teams this Friday and Saturday and help them to reach their fundraising goals.
The funds we raise actually make a difference to the lives of individuals. Just $15 contributes to providing emergency relief for families. Having already reached $4,800, each of our teams have been able to provide three schools with a 10,000 litre water tank so children in South Africa can have access to clean water. If our 100km team can reach their donation target of $10,000 we can construct a new borehole in Zimbabwe which will provide clean water to families and school children and help prevent life-threatening disease.
Help our teams make a positive impact in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.
