The multi-stage project involved hydrographic survey of the bed before and throughout construction of Coffer Dam. This enabled to ensure environmental compliance whilst completing dewatering and decommissioning of the existing weir, piles and concrete structures. The cofferdam was complete with a 34m long sheet pile retaining wall driven via a 45T excavator with a Movax attachment, minimising the loading on the cofferdam during construction and the load on the existing weir during weir upgrades.

Works were carried out in the wet season in a live waterway known to exceed 100% weir capacity. The development and implementation of the emergency high water event plan was a key priority for the construction team. This plan came into effect when the storms in late October caused a high-water event overtopping the cofferdam and delaying works. Due to the careful preparation, no loss to materials, equipment or progress occurred due to the high-water event and the project team was able to repair the washout and complete the project before the practical completion date.

The Silverleaf Weir regulates the water supply for diverse farming and agricultural region that produces olives and grapes, cattle grazing, pig production and various crop farming including peanuts, lucerne, cotton and, most recently, duboisia bio-crop plantations for pharmaceutical products.
