• Sandblasting and priming of rail in 110 meters legs at Chullora in preparation for delivery to Hornsby
• Cleaning and priming of channels in concrete slabs on roads 4, 5, 6 and 7 at Hornsby to receive the prepared rails
• Placement, welding and alignment of rails placement
• Welding and alignment of the rails at Hornsby using the Edilon Sedra embedded rail system (ERS)
• Approximately 61 meters of track reconstruction on the city end of all four roads

Preparatory works was originally planned to be completed directly adjacent to the installation point however to cater for other contractors at Hornsby, the location was changed to Chullora. This change prompted a significant change to the sequence of works, accelerating the program.

The Edilon Sedra system required careful monitoring to ensure the installation was completed at the right temperature and manually poured at the right time. The project team used a collaborative approach to ensure the sequence of works was followed and the project was delivered within budget and provided timeframe.

The Hornsby Maintenance Depot is a train depot in North Sydney that first opened in 1928. The depot is responsible for the stabling and maintenance of all trains on the Northern, North Shore and Western Lines (known as Sector 3). The installation of new track caters Sydney’s increasing demand for public transport.
