Abergeldie has extensive experience in working under, over and in rail corridors. Project examples have included: a road underpass; a road over bridge; new customer station access stairs, lifts and bridges; installation of signalling and communications conduits; an electricity substation for traction power; new ticket booth and shelter structures on station platforms; and extensive earthworks and retaining wall construction to widen a rail corridor for track duplication.
Our most recently completed rail project, construction of five sections of retaining walls as part of Queensland Rail’s Keperra to Ferny Grove line duplication program, was selected as a Category 2 finalist in the 2012 Queensland Civil Contractors Federation Earth Awards. Project scope included the construction of retaining walls, bulk earthworks and access structures over a 1.3 km stretch of the corridor. The works called for a range of construction techniques such as precast concrete crib walls and formed cantilever retaining walls with bored piers, as well as a new concrete access slab causeway. The program was tight and had to be coordinated closely with works by other Queensland Rail contractors along the same corridor. All works were carried out immediately beside the existing live railway line. Despite heaving rail and flooding during construction, the project was completed on time and to an extremely high standard, for a very happy client.
